How to choose the perfect cleanser for your skin

What's the Best Type of Body Wash for Your Skin?
Cleansing is the first and most important step in your skincare routine. It gets rid of all the dirt and grime of the day and preps your skin for the next steps. Dermatologist recommend to cleanse maximum twice a day to avoid drying your skin out. Another thing to avoid is using regular soap instead of cleansers that are specifically formulated for the face. Seriously, just don't.

Using a cleanser that is specifically formulated for your skin type is a game changer but finding the perfect cleanser in a sea of them is very difficult. That's why I'm here to help.

Getting to know your skin

The first step to finding your perfect cleanser, is getting to know your skin type. There are three main categories and three sub categories it can fall into, luckily there's a really easy way to find out which one that is.

Wash your face with some water and dry it off. Wait thirty minutes and place a tissue on your forehead, nose and cheeks.

Now there are some additions to these three basic types. The three subcategories are sensitive, combination and acne prone. These are quite self explanatory but just so you can be sure, here's what to look for:

-  sensitive skin reacts badly to a lot of products and gets irritated easily

-  combination skin is a mix between all three basic types (meaning some parts are oily while others are dry or normal)

-  acne prone skin is easily clogged and gets blemishes very frequently.

Now that you know your skin type, its time to choose your perfect cleanser.

Picking the perfect cleanser

Walking in the cleansers aisle at the drugstore can be very intimidating, but don't be scared, for all those cleansers can be narrowed into 4 main types.

But which one is the best for your skin?

Gel cleansers

Gel cleansers are clear and jelly like, and they are designed for deep cleansing. Regular use of them can help unclog pores and get rid of acne causing bacteria.

PERFECT FOR : oily, combination or acne prone skin.

Foaming cleansers

Foaming cleansers have a gel like or creamy consistency but lather up into a light foam. This type of cleanser does a great job removing excess oil.

PERFECT FOR : oily or combination skin.

Cream cleansers

Cream cleansers have a thick lotion-like consistency and are designed to gently cleanse but not strip your skin of it's natural oils. It can also be marketed or described as a milk or lotion cleanser.

PERFECT FOR : dry or sensitive skin.

Oil cleansers

You may think that an oil cleanser is dangerous for oily or acne prone skin, but dermatologists disagree. Oil cleansers gently remove makeup and dirt from your skin while hydrating it.
Oil cleansers are a life changer and should be used more.

PERFECT FOR : all types of skin.

Following these guidelines, choosing your perfect cleanser will be a piece of cake!
